Neck & Shoulder PainYou’ve come here looking for information, answers, and solutions to your neck or shoulder pain problem.
If you're wondering why I'm including neck and shoulder pain on the same page, it's because the two usually show up at the same time. Two major muscles (upper trapezius and levator scapulae) attach to BOTH your neck and shoulder, and they are usually the cause of lots of pain in both your neck and your shoulder. I have great news for you! Your neck & shoulder pain CAN and WILL get better! But ONLY if you choose to do something about it (you can start by downloading our free neck & shoulder pain ebook on this page). Your neck/ shoulder pain won’t just go away on its own. Resting will not solve the problem. Taking pain meds (especially the really strong ones) won’t solve your problem either (even if doctors have told you they would). Have you been told that before? I have more good news for you. As a Doctor of Physical Therapy, I have the extensive specialty training that is required to help YOU get out of pain, moving normally, and enjoying life again! But Chris, how can you help me? I’m glad you asked. These Are the 3 Steps You Can Take Today to Get Out of Pain:
|
"Ok, Chris. All of that sounds fine, but I’ve been to physical therapy before, and all they did was put me on some machines and give me hot packs. And the PT was so busy seeing two other patients, that I didn’t get the attention or quality of care I was hoping for."
That’s exactly why I started my mobile practice!
You deserve ALL of my attention during our treatment sessions. And that means that you get the absolute best treatments I have to offer, and you get back to enjoying your life faster with less disruption to your busy schedule (no missing work or driving to a clinic 3 times a week). Chris, you talk a good game, but what can you DO for me? Here’s how neck and shoulder pain works: When you have an injury to your neck, your muscles in that area tighten up, or spasm, to protect your knee from further injury. The tight and spasming muscles usually include: upper trapezius, levator scapulae, and scalenes. With shoulder injuries, pectoralis major, pectoralis minor, infraspinatus, and subscapularis also tighten up. Other muscles will also “turn off” when you have a neck injury. Those include: middle trapezius, rhomboids, latissimus dorsi, longus capitis, and longus colli. With shoulder injuries, it also includes supraspinatus, teres minor, and serratus anterior. Without proper strength in these muscles, your pain will continue to make everyday activities, and especially sports, very painful. With some muscles being too tight, and some muscles “turned off”, there’s a muscle imbalance that completely changes everything about how your neck and shoulder move, and that’s where your pain is coming from. Think about it like a game of Tug of War inside your neck and shoulder. If one side is pulling harder than the other, you end up in the mud. So, the only way to fix the problem is to fix the CAUSE of your pain. |

"Dr. Chris Miller at Full Swing Physical Therapy and Wellness the best physical therapist that I have ever worked with.
After almost 3 years following a total knee replacement surgery, I was still having severe pain and stiffness in my left knee. I was taking strong pain medication to reduce the pain at night in order to sleep. My initial goal in working with Dr. Chris was to only play golf again. I was lacking the range of motion and confidence to get back on the course.
Dr. Miller provided very effective and focused therapy, including manual treatments and tailored exercises to strengthen the muscles around my knee. His caring and encouraging demeanor ensured that all of my concerns and issues were addressed.
Due to Dr. Miller's personal attention and positive reinforcement, I am now able to kneel, jog and play golf again.
I feel better than I have in several years!
I highly recommend Dr. Miller to anyone who would like to improve his or her physical condition, especially after surgery. His personal touch and skilled knowledge are unsurpassed.
I am so happy to have found Dr. Miller and he has changed my life!"
